Swedish modern metal kings Meshuggah have unveiled brand new video I Am Colossus exclusively through…um…us! Nicely played, boys.

The track is taken from the Swedes’ blistering latest album Koloss, out now via Nuclear Blast. Buy the album here.
Meshuggah play London’s Brixton Academy on May 3 with Devin Townsend and Periphery, and if you’re not going, you’re a massive gonad. Seriously. A massive one.

Alice Cooper Kickstarter Campaign to Fund 'Shock-Rock Horror' Series:

Alice Cooper, the "Godfather of Shock of Rock," has turned to Kickstarter to fund his latest multimedia venture.
Cooper is helping to develop a comic-book anthology, graphic novel and — if demanded — television series collectively called Uncle Alice Presents. The project will be similar to Tales From the Crypt, The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents, with Uncle Alice (Cooper) serving as presenter of horror tales, according to creator Tom Sheppard, a partner at Los Angeles-based publishing company Dark Matter.
But far from being a mere observer, Uncle Alice will also impact characters directly as a "gatekeeper of the netherworld between heaven and hell." Read more...

An unseen The Deftones Video...

The Deftones Vid You’ve Never Seen:

An alternative video for Deftones’ track Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away) has surfaced 15 years after the original was released. Check it out below.
The clip for the band’s acoustic version of the song was shot immediately after the promo that saw light of day in 1998. Hardly surprisingly, there are some similarities between the two.
It’s not known why the vid took so long to surface, but it has, courtesy of director Frank Ockenfels.
Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away) was the second single from Deftones’ second album Around The Fur.
The band recently toured the UK in support of seventh record Koi No Yokan. They return for the Leeds and Reading festivals in August. Frontman Chino Moreno has most recently been working on his side-project Palms, also featuring ex-members of Isis. Hammer talked Deftones on last month’s Podcast 234.

Dave’s mistake: Mainman unhappy with track from ‘Risk’

Dave Mustaine has admitted that his track Crush ‘Em, from 1999 album Risk, is his least favourite Megadeth track.
And he’s explained how writing and releasing it added up to a “huge mistake.”
He tells Noisecreep: “Probably the dumbest song Megadeth ever did was Crush ‘Em. Not that I hate it, because we’ve never released something I didn’t like musically – but I’m not that fond of it.”
The track started life as his attempt to prevent Gary Glitter song Rock And Roll being played at hockey games, and later wound up on the soundtrack to Universal Soldier: The Return.
Mustaine says: “I remember the day our manager at the time came to my house and he goes, ‘Two words: crush ‘em.’ The silence was deafening.
“I wanted to write a hockey song because I was sick of Gary Glitter being played in all the arenas. I’m a season-ticket holder and this is a family sport. I didn’t want that guy’s song – I wanted to write something better.
“So I wrote the riff, then I see the lyrics and I think, ‘This isn’t what I was thinking.’
“We’d had huge success with our prior album, big singles and all of that. That had never happened before. So we figures, why not give the label and our management more to work with, since the last one did so well on radio? That was a huge mistake.
“So, yeah – it didn’t work.”
But even though he’s known for his motormouth abilities, he’s glad that hasn’t permeated into his music. “I make sure I don’t say something stupid,” he says. “I’ve been pretty fortunate – there haven’t been too many dumb songs in our discography.”
Megadeth are currently at work on their next album, Super Collider, due out in June. Disturbed frontman David Draiman recently discussed his contribution to the record.

Attacks against fans of metal, goth, emo and punk music are to be listed as hate crimes by Manchester police, following a campaign by the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.
Sophie was murdered in a vicious assault in 2007 at the age of 20. A gang of thugs attacked her and boyfriend Robert Maltby – just because they were wearing goth clothes. Two of the thugs were sentenced to life in jail while three others were convicted of inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Since then the foundation created in her memory has fought to bring attention to attacks against people who happen to enjoy heavy or dark music.
Now Greater Manchester Police’s Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan says: “People who wish to express their alternative subculture identity should not have to tolerate hate crime.
Sophie’s mum Sylvia adds: “It’s a validation of the work we have undertaken in the past five years. Hopefully other forces will follow.”
The change of category means that hate crimes against subcultures will become more visible, leading to the availability of more support for victims. It doesn’t necessarily mean a change in sentencing for those found guilty of such offences.
While Manchester’s lead does not have to be followed by the rest of the UK, Equalities Minister Lynne Featherstone last year admitted that the current list of hate crimes, limited to five categories – race, religion, disability, homophobia and transgender – was “incomplete.”
A stage at the Bloodstock Open Air festival has been named in Sophie’s honour since 2009.
