When they landed on this planet in the 80's, no one knew what history would tell about the interstellar group of misfits know to humans only as Gwar. With the objective to make the human race submit to their mastery, Gwar proceeded to discover crack cocaine and metal music, the combination that fueled their rocket ...

Black Label Society, formed in the late nineties by legendary guitar hero Zakk Wylde, have established themselves at the forefront of heavy metal with a series of hard riffing and hugely successful albums alongside worldwide tours that have cemented their reputation as one of the most powerful live bands of their generation. "Unblackened" finds Black Label Society in a mellower mood in a performance recorded at Club Nokia in Los Angeles earlier this year. The concert showcases the band's songs with a greater use of acoustic instruments but without losing any of their power and intensity. Zakk Wylde leads from the front as always, performing here on both guitar and piano and demonstrating the subtler side of his music alongside the blistering solos that his fans know and love. This is definitely a live concert not to be missed!

Surgical Steel, the highly anticipated comeback album from the legendary band Carcass, is a smashing success. Enter Sandman, Metallica’s eponymous1991 album eventually went platinum, and the band became one of the biggest heavy metal acts around. Since then, the influence of “Enter Sandman” has rippled out into the larger culture. Since 1999, Mariano Rivera, surely the greatest relief pitcher in the history of baseball, has ritually made his entrance to the game with “Enter Sandman” providing the soundtrack. (Perhaps a strange pick for a mild-mannered, deeply religious man. But somehow it works.) And the song has been covered umpteen times — by other metal bands (most notably Motörhead) but also by Weird Al Yankovic, Pat Boone, and the bluegrass band called Iron Horse.

DevilDriver just released their sixth album Winter Kills. I spoke with vocalist Dez Fafara about the different recording approach they took with this album, the recent Coal Chamber reunion shows, signing with a new record label and other subjects.
A few days ago I wrote about 10 great metal collaborations that worked. In our last episode I was in a good mood. I was listening to great collaboration, having fun looking them up, and in general having a peachy day. Today, on the other hand, I decided to do the opposite. I've spent a .
Lamb Of God are scheduled to play Malaysia's Rock4Way festival on September 28, a rare show for a metal band in the area, and now we can see why. Today, the Department Of Islamic Development, also known as "Jakim" objects to their peformance for the typical close-minded reasons metal has faced in the past. Jakim's

We are streaming Satyricon‘s awesome, self-titled new album in full and exclusively right here. Find out what the black metal legends have been up to in the five years since 2008′s Nero below.
After the year got off to a strong start, the summer months have seen a weaker crop of metal releases. August only had two new releases that we rated as 4.5 out of 5 stars, considerably fewer than a typical month. But even though the depth wasn't there, there were still several quality releases in August, especially from Norma Jean, who topped our monthly list.
